The world's lowest meat consumption per person

India has the largest number of vegetarians in the world, and the world's lowest meat consumption per person. It is estimated that roughly 30~40% of Indians are vegetarians. Also about 30% of the population eats meat on an occasional basis which leaves about 30-35% of the population as regular meat eaters. In addition, due to certain religious taboos, most Indians eat chicken and lamb and not pork or beef. As such the most commonly available varieties of meat in India are chicken, fish and lamb.
