A country with no standing army

Costa Rica has no standing army. Costa Rican army was constitutionally abolished in 1949. However, it does have a small paramilitary forces which perform policing and border patrol functions. On December 1, 1948 (after the end of Costa Rican civil war), Costa Ricans abolished their military. The budget previously dedicated to the military now is dedicated to security, education, and culture. Costa Rica maintains Police Guard forces.
